Most of life’s more significant lessons come from two places – one, from the mistakes we make, and two, from looking at everything from our audience’s perspective. For these two habits to stick, we must nurture a growth mentality.
This is so important yet so many people fail to grasp the value it brings to everything else we consider important for improvement and progress.
Making mistakes should not be viewed as a stigma. Yes, perhaps in retrospect we could have planned better or made better decisions. And it’s good to develop a habit of retrospection. But retrospection should bring about positive consequences and not blame and punishment. If we become more fearful from making mistakes, we are doing it wrong. Do your best and learn how to do it even better next time. There is nothing to regret or lament. That mentality is crucial for growth.
Looking at everything from our audience’s perspective is key to success in what we do. It is certainly key to creating value. This is a very crucial word – VALUE. In everything we do, we must create value otherwise, why would anyone go to you for a solution? Whether your audience is buying from you or seeking your service, they want value for the time and money they put in. If you don’t know what value looks like to them, you can’t help them.
That’s also why it’s a good habit to understand your audience as thoroughly as possible by asking questions before you offer anything. So….tell me what your challenges are.
